该书自从1943年在美国出版以来，已被翻译成一百多种语言，并且被改编成戏剧、电影、电视剧、芭蕾舞、歌剧、木偶剧和卡通等，还被许多国家选入教科书，成为青少年的书籍，是世界上流传、影响的童话之一。
