Digital Collections
Over the years, the Library has undertaken numerous efforts to digitize research information, for the purpose of preservation and to enhance access. This web site chronicles these projects and provides a way to search the Library s Digital Collections. The scope of what you can search within these collections will expand over time.
The Library Digital Collections Council is now soliciting proposals for digitization projects using our own Library materials. We are especially interested in those collections housed in the Rare Books and Special Collections Department, but we are open to consider all ideas. The highest rankings will be given to those projects that have significant academic value, help support current Princeton faculty in their teaching and/or research, and that will be of particular importance to classroom instruction.
The Council will be responsible for prioritizing projects and determining their scheduling. Staffing realities will also determine the scale and timing of projects undertaken.
Over the last few years, numerous digital projects and collections
each utilizing a wide array of standards —— have been undertaken within the library. Those who have undertaken such projects have found it necessary to research and implement the tools needed to reach their goals without a nucleus of support on the technical and qualitative ends.
To offset the lack of such a nucleus, and in an effort to help digital projects adhere to standards early in their production, this site will serve as an online resource documenting best practices for those currently implementing or planning a new digital project.
